Hanin Afzal is an MASc student in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto and a research trainee at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Hanin completed his BASc in Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. In his final year, he and his team won third prize at the University of Toronto’s 2021 Industrial Engineering Capstone Design Showcase for their Capstone Design project. Prior to his MASc, Hanin completed the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre’s RMP Summer Student Program in 2021.

Hanin’s research focus is the utilization of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the development of healthcare decision support systems. His MASc research project is the development of a machine learning-based clinical decision support system to augment lung metastases multi-disciplinary tumor board decision-making at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
